Full Description
One of the most important tactical benchmarks at any working fire is the establishment of a reliable and sustainable water supply. Often, fire hydrants are the easiest choice for the establishment of that water supply. More times than not, the full potential of that hydrant is not recognized. This class is designed to teach students how to fully maximize the use of fire hydrants for supply operations without sacrificing functionality. Topics covered include: the principles of big water delivery, positioning considerations, methods for overcoming blocked hydrants, double and triple tapping fire hydrants, the effects of supply line on available water, 4-way hydrant valve operations, overcoming weak hydrants, and the “Big Three Supply Operations;” relay pumping, dual pumping, and tandem pumping. By the conclusion of this course, the student with have a comprehensive understanding of how to deliver big water in the urban and suburban environment as well as options available for achieving large fire flows.
